The barely controllable brushes of Fabienne Verdier

This video of French artist Fabienne Verdier at work is mesmerizing.

She tells her brush where to go, but doesn’t completely control it. Similar to Knowles’ drawing trees and Calder’s mobiles, what arises is largely a product of accident. And that’s what gives it its energy.

It’s the accidents that make the art.
